Watching Over Them

I think the HIV/AIDS program I would develop would (mostly importantly) treat each and every client like a person with real issues and concerns and not like a number on a doctor's client chart. I would be sure that all who enters my program walked away from it more educated, more empowered, and in a more positive frame of mind than how they were when he or she first walked through the door. I would also include an outreach/follow up component to ensure that all my brothers and sisters out there actually walk the walk, and not just talk the talk when it comes to their health. I would reinforce the fact that their life still has value and meaning, and they shouldn’t let anything stop them from achieving their life goals. Not even HIV!
I think I would incorporate a first rate prevention and education practice that stressed the importance of healthy living, healthy eating, and adherence to all medications if needed. I think overall what made the difference for me was the fact that I was indeed surrounded by people who loved me and truly cared. They wouldn't let me give up. They always found a reason for me to endure, and that helped me to over come any fears about my health issues. In short it's not over, until it's over! There's nothing a person can't do if they have a good and strong support network watching over them.
